The writing of Learning Material for the revised National Certificate in Chemical
Operations NQF 1 commenced during 2005. Training providers
and companies often request the assistance of the CHIETA either to develop learning materials or align existing learning materials. The Skills Development Act Section 10b (2) allows a SETA to develop learning materials for its stakeholders where such a need is identified.  CHIETA training providers and companies have continuously requested the assistance of the CHIETA to develop learning materials for the National Certificate:  Chemical Operations, NQF 1.  This qualification forms the foundation of all learning in the sector, both for the engineering qualifications and the chemical operations qualifications at higher levels.  The need also arose as each accredited providers offering this qualification has a different set of materials.  Developing these materials would ensure standardised provision across the chemical industries sector.

A complete set of Learning Material comprise of the following and are available on request from Learnership Education and Development Unit.

• A comprehensive set of materials for learners
• A detailed assessment guide
• A trainer/facilitator guide

In order to promote quality in the implementation of Learnerships and skills programmes in the chemical sector, the following guideline documents have been developed:

1. CHIETA internal process and procedures guidelines for the design and implementation of Learnerships and skills programmes
2. Manual for the implementation of Learnerships and skills programmes in the workplace
3. Process flow diagrams for the above guideline documents

The following Learnerships are currently under development and will be available soon:

1. FET Certificate: Laboratory Analysis NQF Level 4
2. National Certificate: Automated Packaging NQF Level 3
3. National Certificate: Chemical Manufacturing ( Household and Personal Care) NQF Level 3
4. National Certificate: Manufacturing of Surface Coatings NQF Level 3
5. National Certificate: Glass Forming NQF Level  3
6. National Certificate: Gas System Installations NQF 2

4. Learnerships Reviews

 The LED and CISGB embarked on the innovative integration of the Qualifications review and Learnership review processes. The two processes occur simultaneously. The following qualifications were reviewed: National Certificate in Chemical Operations NQF 1, 2, 3 and 4.   As soon as the reviewed qualifications are registered by SAQA on the NLRD, the related Learnerships will be registered by the DoL.
