Structure & Representatives

Purpose of the Chambers

The chambers are structures which consult with the 9 sub-sectors of the chemical industry in areas of Skills Development. The objective of such consultation is to address employment trends within each sub-sector, areas of skills demand and supply, scare and critical skills, and undergoing strategic  projects.

Functions of the Chambers

  1. Submit a Chamber Skills Plan, Qualifications Matrix and contributing towards a critical/scarce skills list for the relevant sub-sector(s)
  2. Monitor the implementation of the Chamber Skills Plan
  3. Make recommendations on the nature, content and administration of learnerships to the Executive Committee
  4. Make recommendations to  JSF then to EXCO, GB on the standards & qualifications development and  assessment of education in the Sector
  5. Make recommendations to  JSF then to EXCO, GB on the registration of assessors and monitoring of assessments; accreditation of training providers
  6. Collate information in respect of the employment situation in the sub-sector
  7. Contribute towards all other activities necessary for the development and implementation of the NQF
  8. Report to EXCO on offers of financial assistance to the Chambers by donors and ensuring that any such offers are managed through the CHIETA's normal financial systems
  9. Monitor the distribution of levy grants to companies in terms of the agreed formula
  10. Exercise and perform any function, power and duty that is conferred upon it in terms of the CHIETA Constitution (No. 28457, 3 February 2006) or which is delegated to it by Governing Board except where such power, function or duty may not be delegated.

Chamber Coverage

The nine sub-sectors that make-up the Chemical Industries Sector are grouped in the following five Chambers:

  1. Base Chemicals and Petroleum
  2. Speciality Chemicals and Surface Coatings
  3. Explosives and Fertilizers
  4. Pharmaceuticals and Fast Moving Consumer Goods
  5. Glass

Chamber Representatives

Chambers may also include the following stakeholders, relevant government departments, professional bodies and any other organizations which may add value.
