Regions - Gauteng & Central Regions (G & CR)

Overview

The Gauteng Region of the CHIETA extends over five provinces namely, the Free State, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and the Northwest. The Gauteng Regional Office was established to help implement the CHIETA strategies in these five provinces. The regional office falls under the Constituency Support Division of the CHIETA which is primarily responsible for, through the regions:

  • Maintaining contact with stakeholders in facilitating the planning and implementation of skills development programmes by member organisations
  • Advising stakeholders and ensuring that they participate meaningfully in skills development processes
  • Ensuring that stakeholders comply with the provisions of the associated laws in ensuring that learners develop appropriately to become competent, productive and empowered in the workplace.
  • Engaging in activities to promote and support learning, development. and equity in the workplace
  • Promote an understanding of the sector and the CHIETA amongst stakeholders

The responsibility of the regional office is to:

  • Plan the nature of and carry out the support given to member organisations in implementing skills development
  • Monitor the implementation of workplace skills plan by our member companies
  • Provide opportunities for identifying and sharing best practice
  • Identifying obstacles to skills development implementation and putting in place mechanisms to overcome those obstacles
  • Build the capacity of stakeholders to participate meaningfully in skills development
  • Gather information from stakeholders for the Information and Research Division
  • Raise the levels of awareness among stakeholders on CHIETA programmes and interventions

Our key activities involve providing support to stakeholder on the completion of the Workplace Skills Plan and monitoring the implementation of those plans, running capacity building programmes for Shop Stewards and Skills Development Committees, and promoting products from other CHIETA divisions to all stakeholders.

Employed at the regional office are a Regional Manager, an Office Administrator and five Regional Skills Advisors, one each for the following areas in the region:

  • Gauteng North and Limpopo
  • Gauteng South and the Free State
  • Gauteng West and the Northwest
  • Gauteng East and Mpumalanga
