Trade Union Learning Practitioner Programme (TULP)

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) held a graduation ceremony for 18 learners who were on Trade Union Learning Practitioner Programme (TULP) which was funded by the CHIETA. The graduation ceremony was held on 24 October 2019 at UJ. The purpose of this programme is to build capacity within Trade Unions in Skills Development Facilitation aligned with national standards and best practices. TULP provides information and promotes skills development on related issues to its representatives within the workplace. The programme further provides an additional formal learning opportunity within the worker education space which is included as a priority in NSDSIII.

Small Business Support

On the same day, a group of 30 candidates graduated from the Small Business Support programme. The CHIETA funded a group of entrepreneurs on the below technical Skills Training and Business Coaching:

  • Detergent manufacturing
  • Cosmetics manufacturing
  • All SMEs received traction coaching and mentorship throughout their programme

The programme also had an interesting spinoff where entrepreneurs who were manufacturing similar or complementary products decided to create cooperatives to capitalise off each others’ skills and economies of scale.
